Jewish Tour of Amsterdam (Virtual)
June 14 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am EDT
Pack your bags! You’re going to Amsterdam
A unique opportunity.
Join Inbal Tur-Shalom, Israeli-born photographer and tour guide, for a 90-minute Zoom presentation on the history, impact and influence of the relationship between the Jewish people and the city of Amsterdam. See the “Esnoga”, the Great Portuguese Synagogue; the Schouwburg Theatre, which was transformed into the primary deportation center during the Shoah; and, of course, the Anne Frank House. All of this amidst the charm and beauty of Amsterdam’s brick-lined canals.
Amsterdam was once considered the center of the Jewish world. A magnet for both Ashkenazic and Sephardic Jews, it was known as the Jerusalem of the West. Indeed, its nickname to this day — “Mokum” — is derived from the Hebrew “Makom” meaning “place.” Because, especially for Jews, Amsterdam was The Place.
This presentation is free. Zoom login information to follow.
