The world is a very different place than it was one year ago! As we prepare to once again welcome refugees and asylum seekers into our community as neighbors and friends, and as we begin to enjoy in-person gatherings after a year of socially distanced events and remote meetings, Welcome Home and First Friends are thrilled to mark World Refugee Day with a festival celebrating our work – and each other!
Activities include:
- Speakers from Welcome Home and First Friends
- “Welcome Friends” art installation, inspired by the Humans of New York series, featuring portraits of and testimony by friends of Welcome Home and First Friends, and curated by Walk-Bye
- Games and activities for children of all ages
- Information tables with literature from our allies
- Sales of the new Welcome Home Jersey City World Refugee Day t-shirt, designed by Radici Studio
- Sales of “Big Blue Box” by Emily Kullman and Nancy-Jo Taiani, a children’s book about a girl whose family is broken up by the immigration detention system
- Food provided by the Prince Halal Food Truck
- Mobile Covid-19 Vaccination Unit on location [to be confirmed]
